The Adventure of Time Travel: Recreational Artifact Hunting in Central Texas
For those of us who love history, artifact hunting in Central Texas is like stepping into a time machine. Every arrowhead, scraper, or flake of chert tells a story—one that could stretch back hundreds or even thousands of years. Some of the stone tools found along the Llano, San Saba, and Colorado River drainages date from the Late Archaic period (1,000–4,000 years old), while deeper sites have revealed pieces that may be 8,000–10,000 years old, left behind by early hunter-gatherers who once roamed these very hills.
